2008/09 Concerto Competition for
Symphony and Philharmonia Orchestras

Concerto
Competition Application
The Concerto Competition is open to all Symphony and Philharmonia
members in good standing (all forms turned in and tuition
fees up to date). Soloists are selected to perform with
their respective orchestra at one of our scheduled concerts.
There is a non-refundable entry fee of $50.
The Symphony and Philharmonia conductors must approve
all repertoire beforehand for suitability of performance
by their respective orchestras as well as the availability
of orchestral parts. The number of concerto winners is
dependent on the season's repertoire. This year the competition
will be held in October, the date to be announced.
Rules:

Open to Symphony and Philharmonia members only.

You
may play a single-movement work (like Saint-Saëns Introduction & Rondo Capriccioso)
or one movement of a multi-movement concerto.

Submit
the Concerto Competition Form by September 14, 2008
along with the $50 entry fee.

You will be notified of your acceptance to audition by
telephone within two weeks of submitting the form.

You must time your piece accurately, including all tuttis,
and submit the timing with your entry.

Movements must be 10 minutes or less.

Works must be memorized.

Piano accompanists must be used.

For the purposes of the audition, your accompanist must
cut long orchestral tuttis.

Each
audition will last approximately eight minutes. The
panel may interrupt you if your piece, as prepared
for audition, lasts longer than 8 minutes.

The audition schedule, once finalized, will be strictly
adhered to and you will forfeit your opportunity to play
if you are tardy.

No taped auditions will be accepted.

Winners of the Concerto Competition must wait one full season
before applying again.
