The mission of Houston Youth Symphony (HYS) is to recruit, educate, develop and nurture young musicians and provide them the opportunity to train under professional musicians and perform in professionally conducted concerts.
Founded in 1946, Houston Youth Symphony today has approximately 300 musicians in its four orchestras, a chamber music program for its most advanced players and an after-school private lesson program for talented youth in select economically disadvantaged communities. These programs and services are made possible by support from generous benefactors including foundations, public agencies, corporations and individuals.
